On a quiet, Saturday afternoon, Naru sat alone feeling bored. Her two housemates had gone out for a bit, so Naru had the house to herself. Relaxing for many, but quite lonely for Naru. Considering that her housemates, who are in fact sisters, had not had time to spend together. So, Naru had suggested they take the day to spend some time together, telling them not to worry about her and that she would be fine on her own while they were gone. Such was Naru's nature.
As she sat alone, she thought her friend Koji, who despite being slightly younger than her was still an adult who always seemed to know how to make Naru smile as well always come to her rescue when her little car she named Elsey was giving her trouble. She then smiled, getting an idea of what to do with her afternoon.
Getting up, Naru hurried with a smile to the front door and slipped on her shoes. She then grabbed her keys and star carrier, a common, phone like device with a variety on functions, and reached for the door. However, she stopped, taking a moment to think this idea of hers through one last time. After a minutes worth of thought, Naru nodded, deciding to carry out her plan, and headed out the door.
Stepping out and locking the door, Naru turned around to see Elsey, her small, pink car parked outside. Naru smiled as she opened Elsey's driver side door and sat down on the soft seat. "Hi Elsey. Care for an afternoon drive?" Naru asked, placing her key in the ignition and starting the engine. Elsey's engine turned over and purred nicely, small puffs of exhaust coming from her tailpipe. "Looks like you like the idea as much as I do" Naru said, smiling and looking down at Elsey's dash. A bright red light caught Naru's attention. "I guess you're a bit hungry, huh?" Naru said, looking at Elsey's fuel gauge. The needle rested under the first of three red lines at the bottom of the gauge. Naru giggle to herself a bit. "This may be easier than I thought" she said, smiling and pressing down on the gas pedal.
As she drove, Naru's eyes drifted to the fuel gauge several times. She finally sighed and smiled as she kept going. "Okay Elsey. I know you're hungry, but we're going to go up the passway in the hills. I'm afraid we're going to drive until you've used the last of your gas" Naru said. Elsey's engine sputtered for a moment and continued to run normally. "I know you don't like the idea, but if you run out of gas, I can call Koji and he can bring some with him. After that, I promise I'll fill you with lots of gas, okay?" Naru said, patting Elsey's dashboard.
Naru and Elsey soon made were making their way through the hills. "It's such a nice day. I'm glad we're the only ones here right now to enjoy it" Naru said, smiling. Naru's bliss was interrupted by the thud of hitting a pothole and sudden change in Elsey's balance. "Oh, that didn't sound good..." Naru said, pulling to the side of the road.
Naru nervously exited Elsey and walked around her. Elsey's left front tire punctured and hissing out the last of it's air. "Oh Elsey. This wasn't supposed to happen. I'm so sorry" Naru said, patting Elsey's hood. Naru sighed and sat back down in Elsey, now thinking about her options. She could either call for Koji now, or she could try to press on with the flat tire and see how far she could get.
Naru finally decided she would try to go ahead. "Okay Elsey. We're going to try to keep going. That tire will help deplete whats left of your fuel, so we won't be going tot long. We're going to take it nice and easy now..." Naru said, turning the key in the ignition. Elsey's engine didn't turn over. "Come on Elsey. Be a good now..." Naru said, turning the key once again, Elsey let out a sputter, but started. "That's a good girl" Naru said, smiling and patting Elsey's dashboard and pulling from the road side.
As Elsey limped down the road, Naru fought to maintain control. She could also feel Elsey's engine struggling for power. "Almost there..." Naru said, glancing at Elsey's fuel gauge. At that moment, Naru heard a load pop sound followed by a hissing noise. Naru looked out and over to Elsey's front right tire which was now flopping as it lost air. "Another flat tire?" Naru said, sighing and turning her attention back to the road.
Naru was having more trouble than before Keeping Elsey going in a straight path. As she worked to steer Elsey, she felt a shudder from the steering wheel just as Elsey backfired and began to sputter. Naru pushed down on the gas pedal, but she could feel Elsey's engine losing power and her and Elsey losing speed. Naru turned the wheel with the intention to pull over, but Elsey's flat tires were now taking their toll, and Elsey stopped far sooner than expected, letting out a few last sputters, a backfire before her engine shut off with a few last sputt sputt noises.
Naru looked down at Elsey's dashboard to see the needle of the fuel gauge resting under the red "E". "Well, that's as far as she goes" Naru thought to herself, stepping out to push Elsey to the roadside. Naru had to push a bit harder than she normally did because of Elsey's flat tires, but she managed to get her companion safely to the side of the road. Naru then sat back down and took a moment to catch her breathe.
"Heh. Well, this didn't entirely go as planned, now did it" Naru said said, patting Elsey's steering wheel. "Don't worry. I know it's not your fault. You rest now while I call Koji" Naru said, smiling softly and continuing to pat Elsey's steering wheel. Naru took out her star carrier and held it up. "Browse" She said, causing her carrier's screen to light up and a menu to hover above the screen. Touching a few icons on the bright blue menu, she brought up a picture of a man, 19 years of age by the look, with mid length purple hair with a pink bandana wrapped around his forehead and violet colored eyes.
Pressing another button, the screen made a few ringing noises before a video image of Koji appeared on the screen. "Hey Naru. What're you up to right now?" He asked, smiling. "Heh. I'm a little a stuck at the moment" She said, blushing and rubbing the back of her head. "Stuck? Stuck how?" Koji asked. "Well, Elsey if all out of gas, and she's gotten two flat tires as well" Naru said. "How'd you manage to pull that off? It's tough to get flat tires with no gas" Koji said, laughing a bit. Naru blushed, feeling a bit silly over her currently flat front tires. "Well, we got them before Elsey ran out of gas. I hit a pothole which punctured the first tire, and the second just sort of popped. I think I need to fill Elsey's tires with some air" Naru said. Especially the flat ones" Koji laughed. "Yeah. Listen, I know it's quite a lot to ask for, but I don't suppose you could come bring me some fuel and an extra spare tire, could you? I only have one spare, and I don't want to leave poor Elsey all by herself" Naru said. Koji sighed. "Well, it's not like I have anything going on right now, so I guess I can do that" Koji said. "Thank you so much!" Naru said, clapping her hands together. "You can treat me to lunch and we'll call it even, hows that?" Koji asked, smiling. Naru nodded. "Yes, of course. I'd be happy to do that" Naru said happily. "Okay. I'll hurry and get the things you need so you won't be out there too long" Koji said. Naru nodded. "Thanks Koji" Naru said. "Heh, don't worry about it. I'll see ya soon" Koji said, giving Naru a smile and a wave before ending the call. Naru sighed and leaned back in her seat, smiling. "Okay Elsey. He's on his way. Now we just need to wait for him" Naru said, yawning. "I guess I wore myself out a bit, maybe I should take the time waiting to rest a bit. What do you think Elsey?" Naru said, smiling and turning her key. Naturally, Elsey was unable to turn over from her lack of fuel, but did manage to let out a lone sputt sound. Probably the very last droplet in the tank there Naru though to herself. Still, getting something other than just the sound of Elsey's cranking engine, Naru took it as Elsey's way of telling her to rest. Without much effort, Naru quickly drifted off to sleep.
Naru was later woken by what felt like Elsey moving. Naru quickly sat up, wondering if her brakes gave out, but thankfully, it was just Koji, using a jack to lower Elsey back onto the road. "Hey sleepyhead. I was wondering when you were gonna wake up" Koji said, smiling. Naru rubbed her eyes and sat up. "Oh, Koji. When did you get here?" Naru asked. Koji shrugged. "I while ago. When I showed up, you were out like a light. So, I filled Elsey with some gas, about two gallons I think, and just finished changing her two tires" Koji said, smiling. "Oh..." Naru said. Looking down, Naru turned Elsey's key. She didn't turn over right away, letting a sputter or two and a small backfire before turning over and purring happily. "Looks like she's happy. How about you?" Koji asked. Naru nodded. "Thank you so much Koji. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't come to help" Naru said.
Koji smiled and removed the jack from under Elsey. "So how did this take to cook up?" Koji asked, looking to Naru. "Pardon?" Naru asked. "Come on Naru. Just tell me, did you come out here knowing you'd run out of gas and get two flat tires?" Koji asked. Naru hesitated, realizing that her friend was on to her. "W-well, I didn't plan to get the flat tires..." Naru said, blushing and twiddling her fingers. Koji smiled and sighed. "I knew something was up. With how much trouble you have remembering to get gas, it didn't make sense why you would come out to the hills if you saw your low fuel light on" Koji said. Naru sighed. "I-I'm sorry I didn't tell you" she said. "Look, I'm not mad at you or anything, just a little confused is all" Koji said, putting his hand on Naru's shoulder. Naru blushed. "W-well, Alice and Reina haven't gotten to really do anything as sisters in a while, so I suggested they take today to do something together. Of course, I began to feel lonely all by myself, and you always know how to cheer me up, so I wanted to see you. But I was too afraid to just call and ask if you wanted to do something, so..." Naru began. "You put yourself in a situation where I would come to help you?" Koji asked. Naru nodded.
Koji smiled kindly at Naru. "I guess it's a good thing we're going for lunch together then, huh?" Koji said. Naru stared at Koji for a moment before nodding happily. "Yes. Before we stop to eat, I promised Elsey I would fill her with more gas, which I think she deserves after ending up with two flat tires" Naru said, patting Elsey's steering wheel. Koji nodded. "Sure, we can do that. I'll follow behind you and Elsey in case something else happens" Koji said. "Okay. Thank you again for your help. And for taking things so well" Naru said. Koji shrugged. "You're welcome. I'm always happy to help a damsel in distress" Koji said. "Hmm... maybe me and Elsey will do this again sometime then" Naru said, suggestively. "Heh, I wouldn't mind doing this again sometime... Just try not to end up so far out of the way next time" Koji said, laughing. Naru blushed. "Sorry about that. The way Elsey goes through fuel, I didn't think we'd get as far as we did" Naru said. "Well, you've got lots of gas now, so let's get going" Koji said, smiling and walking back to his van. Naru nodded and pressed down on the gas, pulling away from the roadside with a smile on her face.
Later, after a stop at a nearby gas station and then a nearby diner, Koji and Naru said their goodbyes for the day and each headed home. After shutting off Elsey's engine, Naru looked down and giggled to herself. "I guess you and I are going to go on more drives like this now, huh?" she said. After stepping out and closing her door, Naru turned around and patted Elsey's hood. Before going back inside the house. Upon entering, Alice was at the door to welcome her home. "Welcome home Naru. Say, you look pretty happy today. Did something happen?" she asked. Naru shrugged. "Just went for a quiet drive through the hills" Naru said, smiling and slipping off her shoes.
This is a story I wrote for my friend :iconletrune: as a gift^_^. I wanted to do this one too, so I had fun with this:) This is the first short story I've done here, and it features Naru and Elsey:) Naru is feeling a bit lonely at home since her housemates are out, so she comes up with an idea to get the attention of a guy she likes but Running Elsey out of gas in the hills and then call him for help. Things went according to plan aside from a pair on unexpected flat tires. Naru is scared when Koji catches on to her, but relieved that he wasn't angry, and even offered to help her again if she wanted to do something like this drive of hers again. Naru plans to take him up on his offer, meaning that there will be more stories with Naru and Elsey's misadventures soon to come^_^.
